Christmas

Christmas just passed, and I’ve been blogging crap for a week. Hahaha… I was lazy to write, so cutting and pasting had to do. =P Back to the week before Christmas. Was being forced to clear my off, so I planned to work 2 days that week, Mon and Tues, and take Wed and Thurs off. Friday was family day, free movie at Cineleisure, which happened to be King Kong, which I had just watched with Wendy on Sat. Sad-ded. Aniwae… My plan for a 2-day work week was spoilt, when I got recalled on Thurs because they didn’t have enough people. Lo and behold when I got there and looked at the board, there were actually spare men on that day! If you can afford to have spare personnel, without teams, then why would you say that there were not enough people? Haiz… To think that we have the Organisational Excellence Cert.

Well at least Friday’s plan went along without a hitch. Watched King Kong and then made our way to play LAN at siglap. Poor O Mr. Lin doesn’t know how to play CS, and doesn’t want to be a free frag(I told him I’ll give him my gun and kill him with a knife… Heehee), so we split and some played DOTA, and the rest, including me, played C&C: Generals with him. After that we changed over to Battlefield: Vietnam which was better, save for the renegade rocket every now and then supplied by Mr. Lin himself. I swear he was trying to kill me sometimes. After playing for a couple of hours, we went for dinner before heading home.

Christmas was a pretty quiet affair; my place has never been that big on celebrations anyway. Christmas dinner was turkey and mutton curry. A very classical Singaporean combination.

Took off again on the Tues after Christmas (thereby extending my hol) and when out with Wei Wen. It was supposed to be him and gang, but I guess the gang pulled out on him and it was just me and him. Went to meet him by bus, thinking that it’s a working day, Orchard Rd would be less crowded and the placed not jammed up. Guess I was wrong and spent 45mins in a freaking jam that started all the way from before Scotts. Ended up being pretty late meeting Wei Wen. We went to catch the movie, The Picture, which is for your info, a very lame show. The story cuts off half-way, as though it was short on budget. The fighting scenes were not too bad though. I would rate it 2 out of 5 stars. Don’t waste $$ on it. After the movie, we went to summerset to pick up Wei Wen’s god-daughter for dinner. Over dinner, whilst talking to his god-daughter, found out that one of his other god-daughters doesn’t talk to him because her bf disapproves (How lame can one get?) and another one turned les. This thing about girls going after other girls is getting more common nowadays. It’s a worrying trend. Wonder why…

Went for physiotherapy for my ankle on Thurs. Its pretty lame I say, but anything that gets me out of camp early. Got electro treatment, which knocked out my hp for 4 hrs! And my hp was off at that time. If it was on, it probably would have gotten fried. Whew! But I must remember to put my phone in my bag the next time. When through all the funny things they wanted me to do… but the end result is more disappointing… no improvement. Hope it gets better the next time.

Friday was a pretty packed day. I went for driving in the morning, including the circuit at BBDC. Knocked down the poles during parallel parking due to a miscalculation which resulting in me reversing too much. Argh… At this rate I’m bound to fail… *sob* Still got a month to improve before the test date. I will pass when it comes! Hahaha… Try to at least. After the driving lesson, met up with Aud for lunch, before heading to Ben’s house for the pot-luck, which I was supposed to bring cooked satay, but the apparently don’t start cooking so early. So I ended up sharing pizza with Yun. I spent the rest of the day playing majong, and battlefield 2, which incidentally my com cannot play due to a video card incompatibility. Haiz.

I’m still planning to see if there is anything to do for New Year, but most likely, I will spend it watching TV and catching up on sleep. Hahaha… Till then. Ciao.

Brain Test

I got this test off Sandip's blog... Guess I'm pretty universal eh? hahaha...

Leonard, you are Balanced-brained

That means you are able to draw on the strengths of both the right and left hemispheres of your brain, depending upon a given situation.

When you need to explain a complicated process to someone, or plan a detailed vacation, the left hemisphere of your brain, which is responsible for your ability to solve problems logically, might kick in. But if you were critiquing an art opening or coming up with an original way to file papers, the right side of your brain, which is responsible for noticing subtle details in things, might take over.

While many people have clearly dominant left- or right-brained tendencies, you are able to draw on skills from both hemispheres of your brain. This rare combination makes you a very creative and flexible thinker.

The down side to being balanced-brained is that you may sometimes feel paralyzed by indecision when the two hemispheres of your brain are competing to solve a problem in their own unique ways.

Update!

I’ve been pretty lazy to blog lately, and usually by the time I get myself up to blog, someone would come and ask me to do something else first. I have finally managed to find the will to write this entry…

Let me start where I last left off…

Sat 10th Dec

Mun Yee’s BBQ went pretty well. By the time all the guys met at BP Plaza and went over to the pits, the girls had already started cooking. We added to what was already on the fire by skewering chicken wings and hot dogs till all the metal skewers were used up. When new charcoal arrived, the guys hopped over to the second pit to start another fire. The girls were scrutinising our fire starting skills, mainly because there was the initial problem with the fire starter. We burnt it with a lighter till the lighter was too hot to handle, and the fire starter escaped unscathed! It was as if the fire starter itself was fire-proof! Got sick of trying to get the fire starter burning by the lighter, and decided to use some solid fuel that was present to get the fire going. Once that was done, some of the guys stuck the fire starter on satay sticks (aft they ate the satay of course) and tried to get the fire starter to burn. Too bad I don’t have a picture of that, because they looked as though they had taken marshmallows and burnt them to a crisp by poking it at the fire. Haha… But at least we had more success burning the fire starter that way.

After starting the fire, to cooking started. I got to eat mostly sotong, because that was the only thing that seemed to actually cook on the fire. The chicken wings on the fire had a hard time cooking, most probably due to the aluminium foil over the grill. But once we removed the foil, it stared to burn. Haha… I managed to get a taste of everything, but luckily that was on my own free will and not during the “zhong zi mi mah” that we played once we were all full. It stared pretty one sided at first, and though one of the guys took the first round, the girls took turns to eat for the next few rounds. All of them started making noise, saying that we should change places with them, so it would not be so one-sided. The cute thing was that when one of the girls came over to sit with the guys, she got the “magic number” and her share of the food. Hahaha… Tough luck. The game evened out later, and the host got the most food. She got 3 chicken wings on one round, and commented it was ok, cos’ she only had 1 chicken wing previously. Then the next time she got the “magic number”, she got half a tray of bee hoon! Haha… And she chose that before we stared the round. Once the food was all gone, the evening ended with some of us tossing hot coals into the canal next to the pits to see them splatter and boil in the water down below. That and the gift exchange. Once we completed the gift exchange, the lights went out. That was our cue to start clearing up whatever was left and head home. Chiang Wei was nice enough to give us a ride to the interchange in the cab he and TYY were sharing, but we had to abandon KW to take LRT due to the lack of space. Luckily he stayed within walking distance of an LRT station.

Mon 12th Dec

Went back to camp after the expiry of my MC. Worked less than ½ a day before I was told that since I was on light duty, my hard earned off was going to be used to give me an extended holiday. *Sob* I had to work OT on that day on top of that, to clear up all the admin matters. So the rest of the week I had another “holiday”. I managed to book my driving lessons for the rest of the week except for Wed.

Tues 13th Dec

Went for driving lesson at 1130hrs. It went pretty well except at the ending, when my ankle started to hurt and it became slightly harder to control the pedal. I kept over stepping the accelerator. Once the lesson ended, I headed for a quick bite before ending up at CW’s place for bowling later in the day. It was a day that the gutter was very clean. The “winning” score? 34. Haha. We had a lot of - - scores that day. After bowling, we headed to the Jurong stadium for dinner at KFC. We tried the new firey flavour and poor Yun was sweating even though we were in an air-conditioned environment.

Thur 14th Dec

Went for another driving lesson. This time went into the circuit for the first time. It’s a crowd place that has a lot of things to drive through. From the S-curve, steep hill, parking, etc. The place being so cramped also doesn’t help. Lucky I didn’t run up any curbs.

Sat 16th Dec

Went to see the movie King Kong with Wendy. The movie was nice; everything looked very realistic and detailed. The fights with the T-rexes was good too… along with the giant creepy crawlies. But I would say the let down in this movie was the ending. The ending was very anti-climatic, with the signature scene of King Kong climbing up the empire state building and getting shot dead by planes. Romantic movie. Too bad that I’m not after the gal I went to watch the movie with. =p

That pretty much was my whole boring week. My ankle is still not ok, so I still can’t go back to playing bball anytime soon. Haiz. Guess I will stop here now. I got to prepare to go to camp. Ciao!

Btw, anyone wants to go see Chronicles of Nania? CW? Ben?

Green Day

Boulevard of Broken Dreams

I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me and I walk alone

I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
and I'm the only one and I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk a...

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone

Ah-ah, Ah-ah, Ah-ah, Aaah-ah,
Ah-ah, Ah-ah, Ah-ah

I'm walking down the line
That divides me somewhere in my mind
On the border line
Of the edge and where I walk alone

Read between the lines
What's fucked up and everything's alright
Check my vital signs
To know I'm still alive and I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk a...

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone

Ah-ah, Ah-ah, Ah-ah, Aaah-ah
Ah-ah, Ah-ah

I walk alone
I walk a...

I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk a...

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone...

Blogging again!

I know I haven’t blogged in sometime. These past week or so, I’ve been an addict. (I know the first thing that is going to pop into your mind is drugs but that’s not it.) I’ve been addicted to sudoku!

It’s a puzzle consisting of 81 boxes set into a 9X9 grid. The grid is then further divided into 9 separate boxes. The objective is, with a few pre-placed numbers; solve the puzzle so that in every row and column, there are the numbers 1 to 9, and also each of the 9 separate boxes. Sounds difficult? To some extend it’s challenging. That is probably why I’m stuck doing as many as I can. Hahaha…

Anyway, this week passed more eventfully then the last. It had something to do with my ankle getting better. I am now able to walk about wearing a brace comfortably. Last week I had the brace, but after a short walk the pain would become unbearable. Started venturing to the coffee shop opposite my house for food on Thurs, before going to the market near my place for breakfast on Sat. My leg felt good enough for me to go for the gay bash organised by the gang on Tues.

Gay Bash

The occasional gay bash has been held once again. It’s the time where the gang, consisting of guys from my sec sch plus 2 other guys from bball, hold a BBQ at one of our places. The whole bunch of us will go shopping for chicken wings, sausages, sotong, etc. for the bbq bringing it back to marinade for a few hrs before the event. The “gourmet chefs” amongst us will then do the marinating, whilst the cooking crew will gather round the nearest computer or PS2 for entertainment. With CW just returning from Taiwan, we got to enjoy a couple of treats that he brought back with him from there. The one worth of mention was the lor egg that he brought. It was hard, could even manage a bounce, and if u sat on it, it would not have given way. But it tasted nice, surprisingly.

We all waited for TYY to come over from reservist briefing that he had earlier in the day, before making our way down to the pit. When TYY came, he was wearing the hot camouflage No. 4 uniform, so he borrowed this grey sleeveless tee from KW. But when he wore it, with his No. 4 pants and boots, he looked just like a terrorist, short of a turban and AK-47 rifle. Haha… We were joking later that if he took a bag and “planted” it in view of the security camera, the guards were sure to come running.

The cooks for our gay bash need training, because the first few rounds of food came out very well done. It came cooked to a crisp, black as ash in most places. Hahaha… It got better later, thankfully.

The pics for the event are all with CW and KW, I’ll see if I can get some.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ya and before I forget, I got new fridges this week, after the door of my old one fell off. Literary. I got photos of that, courtesy of my brother once he passes them to me. I think that will conclude my entry for this past week. Going to Mun Yee’s BBQ on Sat. 4 guys and all gals… hmmm… wonder how that will turn out. Till then. Ciao.
